The GFBC WMU met May 3, 2022, at 1pm in the Fellowship Hall to learn about and plan missions, as well as fellowship with one another.

Prayer & business was taken care of.  The missions planning was mostly focused on the summer "Mission Trip Nickelsville" which is being planned now by the Youth team.  It is a family trip and the "Mission Trippers" are looking forward to serving in Nickelsville, Virginia with the South West Virginian Partnership there.  The WMU members agreed to make a monetary donation to be used for students who need help funding their trip and to start a canned food drive for the Nickelsville food bank.  They also discussed having a bake sale, and possibly making frozen meals to be carried to Nickelsville for the participants to enjoy for dinner.  Cary let the ladies know that after the May 22nd mission trip meeting, she will be able to tell them more details.

After giving us a few fascinating facts about Nashville, like: Goo-Goos were created there in 1901, “Goo” stands for Grand Ol’ Opry” and Pres. Theodore Roosevelt coined the “good to the last drop” slogan while he was at the Maxwell House Hotel in Nashville, and the first ever American seeing-eye dogs were raised and trained by a Vanderbilt University Student….Nancy went on to share about a ministry in Nashville, Begin Anew, formerly known as Christian Women’s Job Corps, which was started in 1977. This ministry has done amazing things for those in poverty and in need.  Bible studies, GED resources, children’s programs and many other services are given by this God-honoring ministry in Nashville.

Joyce shared the prayer calendar for that day.

Many prayers were lifted for the ladies we were missing, the missionaries and for the ministry we learned about.

Afterward, Jane reminded us of the fancy hats, and gloves our mothers and grandmothers often wore, and the china they used as she provided refreshments for all in attendance. Jane brought a door prize to give away.  Gloria's name was drawn by Mrs. Baggett and the prize was a set of measuring spoons for "a pinch, a dash, a smudge", etc.  Great fun!

We enjoyed wonderful fellowship that day.  Praise the Lord.

Our next meeting will be held at Carol’s house, weather permitting.
