Doris B. Benton Memorial Scholarship Application, Criteria, and Qualifications

Below are the Guidelines and Criteria for the Doris B. Benton Memorial Scholarship along with an application form.  The amount of this year’s scholarship is $2,000.

Please complete the Application Form and submit with a copy of your academic transcript showing GPA and class rank (if known), and one letter of reference as described below.  

Guidelines Applications will be accepted from high school seniors entering a college, university, professional, or technical school.  If there are no high school students entering a college, university, professional, or technical school, students already enrolled in college may apply.   To be considered by the scholarship committee, students must submit a completed application, a transcript of grades showing GPA and class rank (if known), and one letter of reference from your choice of a teacher, guidance counselor, pastor, or employer/former employer.

Criteria

Church Involvement:   Applicants may be members of Great Fork Baptist Church actively involved in Sunday School, youth activities, and attendance at worship services.  

Non-Members:  Applicants may not be members of Great Fork Baptist Church, but attend services or live in the community, or be relatives of Great Fork Baptist Church members.  

Academic Attainment:  Applicants need not have an all “A” average, but should have shown the intellectual ability and the motivation to be able to succeed in work beyond their current academic level.  

Acceptance for Further Education:  Applicants must be accepted for admission at an accredited college, university, professional school or technical school.  

Leadership Potential:  Applicants must have exhibited leadership potential through participation in extracurricular activities that develop leadership potential.  

Character:  Applicants should exhibit those habits, morals, and traits that combine to form good character.
